Job Description
Summary:
Overall delivery responsibility for all projects assigned. Responsible for planning and managing programs that include a mix of tactical and strategic projects of high complexity, cost and impact. Manage PMO development program for improving project management skills in the region.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Analyzes historical data and identifies areas where continuous improvement can be applied.
• Manages project initiation activities that include identifying contractual obligations, client needs and goals, existing situation, necessary contacts, and access to existing information as needed.
• Reviews plans to determine costs, timeline, funding, staffing requirements and goals.
• Conducts project closure activities to formalize and communicate the project acceptance, handover ongoing activities to accountable teams and complete a post implementation review to identify areas of improvement or that worked well.
• Builds strong, collaborative relationships and takes ownership of key initiatives across business levels and functions.
• Improves department documentation standards or guidelines.
• Provides training and some direction for project management team as needed.
• Plays a leadership role to provide feedback for continuous process improvement.
• Oversees the delivery of continuous and effective services and ensures project completion within budget and in accordance with client’s requirements.
• Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.
• Develops, defines and executes project plans, schedules, budgets and deliverables. Identifies needed resources for projects, defines and assigns major project roles.
• Monitors the product/program/project from initiation through delivery, interfacing with external customers or internal field people on technical matters, as needed.
• Monitors project completion from initiation through delivery to meet revenue and cost projections. Oversees performance of the installation and client acceptance of system integration projects or engagements.
• Serves as mediator to internal issues and conflicting priorities for members of cross-functional teams focused on the delivery of new or existing solutions to clients.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
Desired Profile
Education:
Bachelor’s or higher degree from a four year college or university in a related discipline.
Experience:
14-18 years experience in project management and delivery roles including seven years experience managing complex projects; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Project management certification or the equivalent required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Extensive knowledge and experience leveraging IT methodology best practices.
• Extensive knowledge and skill in project management standards, processes, procedures and guidelines, and recommends improvements to realize efficiencies.
• Advanced skill in the use of project management software to manage projects (e.g., MS Project and auxiliary tools, such as earned value database, audit tools, project repository, including risk, issues and action items database, SLIM Estimate, Metrics and Control, PlanView, Platinum Process Continuum)
• Skill in using a breadth of project experience and project management expertise to effectively transfer knowledge to any project situation (i.e., ranging from internal to conversions to software development projects)
• Skill in leveraging knowledge and experience using the industry project management best practices (i.e., PMBOK) to play a leadership role by providing feedback for continuous process improvement
• Skill in interviewing and conducting assessments to partner with clients and project teams to create an open, comfortable and win-win environment
• Skill in clearly defining with key stakeholders the project requirements that reflect clients’ business, fiscal, and functional objectives
• Demonstrated skill in managing budgets and timelines of small to large-sized projects
• Skill in managing change to project scope
• Skill in analysis, problem solving and implementing effective solutions
• Skill in innovation/creativity
• Demonstrated ability to take leadership to define requirements for project risk management plans and to hold project managers accountable for adhering to them
• Ability to coach others in skills required to plan and estimate resource needs of complex projects
• Ability to oversee the development of schedules that result in on-time releases of large and complex projects
• Ability to reach agreement with key stakeholders on project approaches and decision-making
• Ability to facilitate the resolution of complex and controversial issues
• Ability to understand and comply with the terms and conditions of the contract(s) within own area of responsibility; works with other to resolve contractual issues as they are identified
• Ability to maintain and coordinate productivity and to effectively manage workloads
• Ability to set clear expectations, manage team performance and build high morale among team members
• Ability to consistently set challenging goals and hold self and others firmly to timetables for accomplishing goals/tasks despite obstacles
